Racist violence consists of crimes perpetrated against individuals and their communities because of a real or perceived difference based on national or ethnic origin, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Racist violence remains a constant threat to our societies and to the core principles of Lesvos Solidarity which are based on inclusion and co-existence. Tackling racist violence should be a core concern for the Greek state, however today we see, more and more, racism and consequently racist violence, becoming embedded within state policies and institutions. Last Friday 31/3, our team along with other members of RVRN - Racist Violence Recording Network were trained by the Assistant Coordinator of the network, Ms. Garyfallia Anastasopoulou, on what is racist violence, which are the bias indicators behind such violence and how to record incidents against individuals and their communities. The Racist Violence Recording Network (RVRN) emerged in 2011 out of the need to advocate that the Greek state acknowledges and firmly addresses the issue of racist violence in Greece. Today it comprises of 52 civil society organizations under the coordination of UNHCR and the Greek National Commission for Human Rights. The Greek Ombudsman and the Μigrant and Refugee Integration Council of the Municipality of Athens participate as observers. Lesvos Solidarity as part of the network remains committed in supporting the activities of RVRN and in documenting systematically racist violence incidents perpetrated against individuals and their communities on Lesvos and beyond. We continue our struggle until we are done with racism once and for all! For more information on the Racist Violence Recording Network see here: https://rvrn.org/en/
