Lesvos Solidarity (LeSol) is a grassroots organisation based on Lesvos Island, Greece. LeSol has been operating since 2012. LeSol’s community believes in an open society free of racism, fascism, and discrimination. LeSol is an assembly-run organisation and the participation of refugees in shaping knowledge and skills is vital for integration and social inclusion.
LeSol’s mission is to provide community-based solidarity spaces and its vision is to inspire society and to expand its solidarity model, which promotes equality, trust, and respect for each other and for the environment, creativity, empowerment, and active participation.

Overview of Project and Position
The Communications Coordinator is the focal point for internal and external matters of the department, and is responsible for developing the Media and Communications strategy for Lesvos Solidarity, as well as its timely and effective implementation. The incumbent coordinates LeSol communications and relevant workflow and supervises the Comms department (including advocacy), working closely with fundraising and other LeSol units.
Key objectives / responsibilities of the role
Develop and implement organization-wide media and communications strategy / plan to promote LeSol vision and mission.
Develop and implement a social media strategy across Lesvos Solidarity departments. Create engaging social media content, strategically expand the organization’s social media engagement.
Coordinate, design, produce, edit and review high-quality content for a variety of communications outputs of the organization (e.g. website, newsletter, reports)
Coordinate, design, produce, edit and review LeSol media output including print, radio, and TV, acting as spokesperson where relevant.
Lead on designing and developing a new website for LeSol.
Develop and maintain a network of journalists and influencers.
Oversee LeSol media relations and maintain a media kit about LeSol.
Proactively engage with the media to grow the organization’s visibility as well as reactively respond to media inquiries including crisis scenarios.
Develop and execute an internal communications plan, ensuring everyone is aware of important updates and is brought together under a united vision and mission.
Facilitate regular organization-wide status update meetings.
Coordinate media/comms team members including managing workflow and staff.
Represent department internally in cross-departmental bodies and meetings.
Support Lesvos Solidarity departments with communications work as needed.
Regularly evaluate communication activities and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
At least three (3) years of professional experience in media a/o communications, including strategy development and planning.
Proven professional experience in social media strategy and growing organizational visibility across platforms.
In-depth knowledge of the Lesvos context essential with professional experience huge asset.
Experience in coordination including leading a team.
Experience working in NGOs as well as with a vulnerable population including safeguarding.
Experience working in the humanitarian and/or human rights field preferable.
Fluency in Greek and English.
Strong team player with an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team including prioritizing workload and deadlines and delegating accordingly.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills including networking and public speaking.
Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail and ability to multitask while working in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to navigate complex information and reduce and brief concisely.
Ability to work independently, effectively prioritizing workload and deadlines.
Ability to create a respectful work environment where an atmosphere of trust and integrity prevails, and everyone is accountable for one’s conduct and performance.
Desire to work in a solidarity organization.
