Lesvos Solidarity (LeSol) is a grassroots organisation based on Lesvos Island, Greece. LeSol has been operating since 2012. LeSol’s community believes in an open society free of racism, fascism, and discrimination. LeSol is an assembly-run organisation and the participation of refugees in shaping knowledge and skills is vital for integration and social inclusion.

Communication Officer

Overview of Project and Position

Typically reporting to the Communications Coordinator, the Communications Officer is responsible for creating communications content on behalf of Lesvos Solidarity. He/ She is part of a team providing strategic relations and communication services to internal and external stakeholders. Delivering sound advice,
strategy, planning and implementation on various communication matters is core to the role.

Key objectives/responsibilities of the role
  • Maintain organisation-wide media and communications plan (excluding Social media)
  • Facilitate creation of internal communication plan
  • Proofreading the content for a variety of communications outputs of the organisation (i.e. website, newsletter, reports) in terms of language.
  • Create media/comms stakeholder (journalists, news networks) database
  • Attend external public speaking engagements
  • Meet with journalists
  • Speak at LeSol events (depending on subject of expertise)
  • Update LeSol website to keep supporters, donors and interested users informed about current activities, successes and issues
  • Optimise LeSol website with search-engine friendly tags on a regular basis
  • Ensure timely reporting of M&E, financial and narrative reports
  • Contribute in the writing of Standard Operating Procedures for all processes related to Comms and Advocacy
  • Contribute in the update SOPs on a regular basis
Required degree/experience
  • 2+ years prior experience in a communications or role 
  • Fluency in Greek and English
  • Exceptional writing skills and ability to compose engaging and accurate content in Greek
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office programs
  • Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, Canvas, Social media administration, Website administration and Account management, Graphic design, Video editing Illustrator is an asset
