Job Vacancy

Somali Interpreter

Project / Department MHPSS and Housing Projects
Contract Type 1 month with high possibility of extension
Hours p/w

Part Time, 15 hrs per week

Ability to respond to urgencies. Possibility of on call duty interchangeably with other team members

Overview of Position

The target of this project is to provide translation to social and medical matters for cases of either refugees or locals with increased social and health needs in Lesvos island. Social inclusion and access to social rights are among the scopes of this project. 

The role is considered to be part of an interdisciplinary team that will provide support for cases of refugees, including accommodation, social and medical services

Key objectives / Responsibilities
  • Provide interpretation services
  • Participate in community-based workshops, social, health, recreational, integration activities 
  • Whenever needed participate in formulation of case plan reviews, case plans and case consultations 
  • Follow the recording/reporting system to provide input in respect to participation and progress in activities 
  • Accompany cases to external activities/visits, whenever interpretation is necessary 
  • Ensure and respect confidentiality 
  • Attend team, supervision and training meetings and workshops
Required degree/experience
  • Very good Somali and English speaker. Greek language knowledge is an asset 
  • Experience in working as interpreter/cultural mediator
  • Experience in working with refugee population
  • Familiar with direct assistance to refugees
  • Experience in working in a multicultural environment 
  • Experience in shelters or housing/accommodation projects is an asset
Required qualities
  • Understanding and enhancing the concepts of community-based projects
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work in an unstable and changing environment
  • Personal qualities: Team player, responsive, flexible, able to handle stress and high-pressure work environments effectively and work in culturally and linguistically diverse work settings, organisational and coordinating skills

Lesvos Solidarity is an AMKE (Non- Profit Civil Partnership) registered with the Ministry of Asylum and Migration and is ISO 2001:2015 certified.

The organization works collaboratively across departments and LeSol praises a culture where team members help each other and collaborate. The team members are welcome to actively participate in events, seminars, workshops, and discussions related to both their role and the work of the organization.
