Safe Passage Bags Workshop

Hours p/w

30 (part-time), 1 month (possibility for extension)

Overview 

The Safe Passage Bags workshop is a place where people of many backgrounds and nationalities work together to turn discarded items (dinghies, life jackets, tents, unusable clothes) into different kinds of bags and other products. 


The main task of the position of tailor is to sew the different kinds of bags and other products made of upcycled material. He/she may also be asked to cooperate on creating designs and patterns for new bags.

Key objectives / responsibilities of the role

  • Sewing different items, mostly bags, made of upcycled materials (life jackets, discarded clothing, dinghies, broken tents, etc.)
  • Adapting and developing existing designs
  • Drawing patterns or altering existing patterns
  • Attend regular team meetings, and individual meetings as needed

Required experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience sewing garments, preferably on industrial sewing machines
  • Strong knowledge of sewing techniques and ability to read patterns

Required qualities

  • Some English or Greek preferred,though support for classes in Mosaik will be offered.
  • Open to different cultures, social backgrounds and ideas
  • Creative
  • Open to using different types of materials, mostly used

Other tasks related to the project might be assigned & active participation in LeSol meetings

 and events are also expected.

Success Factors

LeSol team members are expected to support all efforts towards accountability and transparency to its beneficiaries and their team. The successful everyday operation of the Safe Passage Project and the smooth coordination with other units constitutes the major success factor.
