About us

Lesvos Solidarity (LeSol) is a grassroots organisation based on Lesvos Island, Greece that has been operating since 2012 while the current entity was founded in 2016.  LeSol’s community believes in an open society free of racism and discrimination. 

 

LeSol’s mission is to provide community-based solidarity spaces and its vision is to inspire society and to expand its solidarity model, which promotes equality, trust, and respect for each other and for the

environment, creativity, empowerment, and active participation.

Overview of Position

The role reports to the Comms & FR Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be motivated, professional, and organized and have a knack for research. We’re looking for someone who believes in the mission of LeSol and has exceptional drive for furthering our fundraising efforts as well as strategizing and delivering on new ones.

Key objectives 








 



Responsibilities 

  • Promote awareness of the organization’s mission and work in Lesvos and outside the island
  • Cultivate a network of dedicated donors and volunteers, both locally (Greece, Lesvos) as well as abroad
  • Spot new fundraising opportunities
  • Plan fundraising initiatives to help the organization meet financial goals
  • Form strong relationships with external stakeholders in Lesvos, in Greece and abroad
  • Ensure major donors are satisfied and kept in the loop
  • Research individuals, corporations, and foundations that are interested in gift giving
  • Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
  • Write grant applications and fundraising proposals
  • Strategize and successfully execute fundraising moves, such as prospects research, cultivation, grant securement and retention
  • Organize fundraising events while overseeing teams of volunteers
  • Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met

Required degree





Experience

  • At least two years of experience in fundraising, sales, or marketing

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, business, public relations, marketing, or related field
  • Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising

Required qualities

  • Open to different cultures and social backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the refugee’s crisis in Greece
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate colleagues and volunteers
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Passion for research
  • Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events in quite a fast-changing context
  • Experience in writing grant proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters
  • Confidence in public speaking
  • Legal, administrative, or accounting experience a plus
  • Fluent in Greek and English. Any other language will be considered an asset.

 

Lesvos Solidarity is an AMKE (Non- Profit Civil Partnership) registered with the Ministry of Asylum and Migration and is ISO 2001:2015 certified. 

The organization works collaboratively across departments and LeSol praises a culture where team members help each other and collaborate. The team members are welcome to actively participate in events, seminars, workshops, and discussions related to both their role and the work of the organization.
